A trip to a library or a book store may be of help. Find a book showing different hair styles for long hair and fresh ideas for the plaits (and the instructions helping your daughter to do the plaits by herself). Also you can check the ideas on the web (I asked for--styles of plaits). At first you may need to encourage, praise and help, but with practise your daughter will learn a valuable skill and she will discover the thrill of independence. Good luck!
